Leigh Robshaw is an Australian freelance writer and editor who has been working in the media industry for more than 16 years.
Born in Sydney in 1972, Leigh studied journalism, public relations and media production at the University of Western Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Communications in 1992.
Her first job in journalism was at The Planet newspaper in Sydney, where she began working while still a university student. The Planet was one of Australia’s first national health, environment and self-help newspapers, founded by Leon Nacson, director of Hay House Publishing, Australia. Leigh quickly elevated herself from a position as a journalist, becoming editor of The Planet at the age of 21.
In 1994 Leigh left Australia to travel and work overseas. She lived in London for a year and worked as researcher and assistant to author Stuart Wilde, while also writing travel articles for British publications. She also spent three years in South America and one year in Japan, writing constantly about her travels.
Returning to Australia in 1999, Leigh took on a role as a full-time travel writer with the Paradises Ink. stable of magazines in Sydney. She became editor of three of their travel publications, including the well-known quarterly magazine, Holiday and Travel News.
As a travel writer, Leigh’s main interest was eco-travel, which led her to cover stories such as skiing in Canada, white water rafting in Bali and scuba diving in the Philippines.
From 1999 onwards, Leigh continued to work as a consultant for Hay House, ghostwriting and editing numerous Hay House books.
In 2001 Leigh took on a role as sub-editor and feature writer with the Open Road in Sydney, a motoring and travel publication with a distribution of 2.2 million. She wrote predominantly about driver safety and advocacy, as well as contributing features on domestic and international travel.
In 2004 Leigh relocated to the beautiful Sunshine Coast region of Australia, where she continues to work as a freelance writer and sub-editor for local and interstate titles.
Leigh lives in the idyllic village of Maleny, known for its social and environmental activism and outspoken stance on sustainability. She contributes to her local community in her role as editor of the Maple Street Co-op News.
Leigh’s immediate goals are to write great stories about fascinating people, places and events and to publish her first novel, a semi-autobiographical adventure story based on her three years spent living in South America.
